Inspirational Women ~ Hedy Lamarr

I first saw Hedy Lamarr when I was a young girl in the film 'Ziegfield Girls' and fell in love. {It was a double whammy for me because that's when I also met Lana Turner for the first time and both women have inspired me in different ways.}

My Grandad told me that Hedy was an inventor too as well as being a beautiful Hollywood star and I was fascinated. That fascination has been enduring and I wanted to celebrate this time of St Valentine by celebrating women who have meant a lot to me over the years.

I doodled this Myrtle May & Missy drawing whilst watching 'Bombshell' the wonderful film about her and if you haven't seen it, I strongly urge you to do so ~ She really was incredible!

"People are illogical, unreasonable, and self~ centred. Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.

People favour underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for the underdog anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway."

Hedy Lamarr

Incidentally, she was the inspiration for my favourite comic book hero/villain Catwoman so there are even more reasons to love her!

I hope you are inspired to find out more about this remarkable woman ~ she really didn't receive the credit, thanks and recognition she so deserved in her lifetime! And if you're reading this on your smartphone or tablet? Well you can say a HUGE thankyou to Ms Lamarr as it was her inventions and ideas that led to the development of our Wifi technology today! What an amazing woman!
